DD Mini Farm Retired Mares

These are DD Mini Farm Retired Mares, and they will live here until they pass.

While some farms choose to rehome mares once they are no longer able to produce foals, whether due to age, medical reasons, or breeding goals, we believe in honoring the whole journey of each horse. These mares have given us their youth, their foals, and their trust. Here at DDMini Farm, they remain part of our family. Though they are retired from breeding and showing, they continue to contribute in quiet, meaningful ways, occasionally participating in gentle grooming sessions as part of our nonprofit’s outreach. Their presence is a gift, and their legacy lives on in every life they’ve touched.

Dent Miss Darlene

Dent Miss Darlene

Breed: AMHA/AMHR

Height: 32.75″

Color: Silver Dapple

Foaled: April 1, 1997

Darlene came to DD Mini Farm from dear friends within our show community. One of her daughters, the same age as Bonnie, had excelled in the show ring, so when Darlene was bred to the same stallion, we were excited at the possibility of welcoming a full sibling with similar promise.

Sadly, the foal was born with dwarfism and did not survive. We gave Darlene plenty of time to rest and recover, and after a few years, decided to try again. She was bred to Rowdy Satan, and that pregnancy brought unexpected drama and unforgettable tenderness.

During an emergency delivery, a red bag delivery, the foal was born in the back of a moving horse trailer on the way to the vet clinic. I tore off my shirt to help dry the newborn, waved down John to stop the truck, and thankfully, he had a spare shirt for me. We named the colt Lucky, hoping the name would be prophetic.

Lucky and Darlene stayed at the vet clinic for two days before returning home. Though he initially seemed to be doing well, his health began to decline. John made a late-day run to the clinic for stronger antibiotics, but despite our efforts, Lucky passed away that night. We choose not to breed her again.

Darlene’s journey reflects the love, risk, and unwavering devotion that lives at the core of DD Mini Farm. She’s not just a mare, she’s a symbol of resilience, and we cherish her deeply.

Michaels Arks Nightingales Daisy

Michaels Arks Nightingales Daisy

Breed: AMHA

Height: 30.75″

Color: Buckskin Pinto

Foaled: April 14, 2005

Daisy was never the horse I planned to bring home. I met her at a horse show in Mississippi, where an auction was held during the event. Something about her gentle spirit and quiet strength drew me in—and just like that, she became part of our farm family.

Though she had been exposed to a stallion before, Daisy never carried a foal. We tried a few times, hoping she’d become a mother, but it wasn’t meant to be. Instead, Daisy found her purpose in simply being herself, a sweet soul who brings calm and comfort to everyone she meets.

She may never have had a baby, but she’s nurtured hearts in her own way. Daisy will live out her days here at the farm, surrounded by love, sunshine, and the peace she so richly deserves.

NOTE: Be careful going to horse shows. You may come home with more horses than you took.

Refs DDMinis Buckin Rebelina

Refs DDMinis Buckin Rebelina

Breed: AMHA/AMHR

Height: 32.75″

Color: Red Roan

Foaled: April 20, 2008

When I first saw Reba’s photo, my heart skipped a beat. She was one of the first mares we purchased.
We bred her to Ghost, and the colt they produced was so special, I gelded him just to keep him in the mares’ field. He eventually found a new home with a loving family and their foster children, alongside his half-brother.
Though we’ve tried to breed Reba again—she’s even spent time at the vet clinic for testing, her body may have other plans. We may try again, but whether she has another foal or not, Reba will live out her life here, surrounded by the peace and love she helped build.
Her pedigree is a testament to miniature horse royalty:

  • Sire’s side: Granddaughter of Boones Little Buckaroo
  • Dam’s side: Granddaughter of Sids Rebel
Reba is a cherished soul in our herd and is is such a sweet mare with a great personality.

Satan’s Madame Kernel

Satans Madame Kernel

Breed: AMHR

Height: 32.5″

Satans Madame Kernel carries the influence of several foundational lines:

  • Sire: NFC Rowdys Satan (1990)
A direct son of Rowdy, one of the most iconic miniature stallions in breed history.
Rowdy was known for his fiery movement and refined build, and his descendants often carry strong charisma and presence
  • Dam: OLLIES HANNA (1996)
By DD Corky, a palomino stallion.
Includes lineage from Iowas Little Kernel, a buckskin stallion with the dun gene, and Stouts Mister Pride
This pedigree blends Rowdy’s bold refinement with Kernel’s compact elegance, suggesting strong potential for expressive movement, color versatility, and balanced conformation.

Maddie is blind and has a small group of horses to keep her company.  She will be in the DD Mini Farm Mares herd for as long as she lives.
