The geldings at DD Mini Farm hold a special place in our hearts — each one is truly part of the family. We believe that not every male horse needs to remain a stallion; in fact, many exceptional stallions become outstanding geldings.
Curious about what a gelding is?
A gelding is a male horse (or equine, such as a pony, donkey, or mule) that has been castrated. This process reduces hormonally driven behaviors typical of stallions, helping the animal become calmer, more manageable, and well-suited for everyday companionship or work. As Wikipedia explains, geldings tend to be gentler and quieter, making them ideal partners in many settings.

Gum Branch Magics Fine Tune

Breed: AMHA/AMHR
Height: 32.5″
Color: Black & White Tobiano
Foaled: July 15, 2007
Tune is a true testament to resilience, charm, and heart. With his striking black-and-white Tobiano coat and gentle spirit, he’s earned a special place in our family and in the hearts of everyone who meets him. Though life presented him with moon blindness, Tune adapted with incredible grace. He’s now fully blind but continues to navigate his surroundings with confidence, never letting his condition dim his spirit or slow him down. His intuitive nature and calm demeanor often leave visitors in awe of his strength and courage.
We’ve lovingly retired Tune from stud service, and he has since been gelded. While he’s no longer contributing to our breeding program, his legacy continues to flourish here at DD Mini Farm. Several of his foals remain with us, including cherished mares and one carefully selected stallion who carries on his lineage with pride.
Tune’s story isn’t just about overcoming obstacles; it’s about the enduring impact one horse can have. His presence is a daily reminder of grace, grit, and the joyful spirit that defines our herd.

DDMinis Rowdys Great Balls of Fire

Breed: AMHA/AMHR
Height: 30″
Color: Sorrel & White Tobiano
Foaled: April 29, 2016
Tre, short for “The Third,” is a proud grandson of the legendary Rowdy, and he came to DD Mini Farm with all the promise of becoming a standout show stallion. That was the plan for 2020, but life had other ideas. Between unexpected health challenges and a global shutdown, Tre’s debut had to wait.
By early 2024, Tre made his mischievous nature known in classic style, leaping from his paddock straight into the mare’s field, more than once. Despite repeated attempts to return him to his designated space, he insisted on joining the girls. Until our new barn was ready, he took up residence in a secure dog run to keep him (and the ladies) out of trouble.
We bred him to Joy in May of 2025, hopeful for a special foal. Shortly after, Tre’s behavior began to shift; he became difficult to handle outside his stall, despite his impressive pedigree and conformation. So we made the responsible choice that every ethical stallion owner should consider: Tre was gelded in June 2025.
Today, Tre is embracing a new chapter. With his stunning movement and natural presence, he’ll step into the show ring as a gelding next year, and we’re excited to begin teaching him to drive. He may not be passing on his genes, but he’s still destined to turn heads and win hearts.
